Admission Requirements
Each of the following requirements MUST be completed to be considered qualified and placed on the Radiographer qualified list.
- Maintain GPA (2.50 or higher)
- Accuplacer Next Gen (255+) Reading Score
- Eligible for placement into ENG 131
- MATH 100 or higher with a C grade or higher
- BIO 233 with a C grade or higher
- AH 100 with a C grade or higher
To become qualified, you must complete all admission requirements and contact the Student Success Navigator or Health Careers Academic Adviser. Qualified students are formally admitted to the program once per year, in the fall semester, on a first-qualified first-admitted basis. Final approval to enroll in the program comes from the Radiographer Program Director.
Required Support Courses
Students may choose to complete as many of the following support courses prior to entering the program. These courses are a part of the RAD Program.
Summary Job Profile
The following is a description of the functional abilities required of a student in the Radiographer program at Henry Ford College. Job Summary
Under moderate direction, the radiographer provides radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. They provide patient care and exercise professional judgment in the performance of procedures. Principles of radiation protection must be applied. The radiographer evaluates radiographic images to maintain a high degree of quality.
Physical & Mental Effort
Strength: Requires the ability to frequently push, pull and/or lift equipment or patients in excess of 50 lbs.
Manual Dexterity: Requires possession of moderate manipulative skills related to equipment operation, patient transfer and positioning techniques.
Coordination: Requires possession of moderate coordination skills related to equipment operation, patient transfer and positioning techniques.
Mobility/Endurance: Requires extended periods of walking and standing in a stressful patient care environment.
Hearing: Requires hearing acuity at least at a level to ensure proper patient care consistent image quality.
Visual Discrimination: Requires visual acuity at least at a level to ensure proper patient care consistent image quality.
Concentration: Requires a high level of concentration to fine detail with frequent interruptions while attending to a task for a period of 20-45 minutes (average examination time).
Attention Span: Constantly needs to be able to attend to task for extended periods of time.
Conceptualization: Frequently needs to be able to understand and relate to the theories behind several related concepts.
Memory: Requires the ability to recall standard routine as applies to medical imaging procedures.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Convey information through verbal and nonverbal communication and written word. Communicate in a one-on-one setting as well as in groups. Interact effectively and appropriately with instructors, healthcare providers, peers, patients, and family to provide effective and efficient patient care.
Environmental & Working Conditions
Frequent exposure to ionizing radiation, sharps, blood, patient secretions, bodily fluids, wastes, infectious patients, electricity and equipment noise. Exposure to latex maybe be moderate depending on the setting to which you are assigned.
